SEND Briefing Events

The SEND Pathfinder project team will be hosting 3 briefing events for all staff (health professionals, education and social care staff), parent carers and voluntary sector organisations.  These events will show the work undertaken so far in the design stages and how the single assessment and plan process will be delivered in Devon.

These events will take place on;

Tuesday 20th November, 10am-1pm – Buckfast Abbey, Buckfastleigh TQ11 0EE Thursday 22nd November, 10am-1pm – Isca Centre, Exeter EX4 8NT                   Friday 30th November, 10am-1pm – Tiverton Hotel, Tiverton EX16 4DB

Education Select Committee calls for evidence to inform SEND reforms

September 20th, 2012

The Education Committee is conducting pre-legislative scrutiny of the Government’s proposed reform of provision for children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN).  The Committee invites written submissions of evidence by 11th October 2012.

Applications now open

The Department for Education is inviting disabled children and young people and those with special educational needs to join a Young People’s Advisory Group (YPAG). The purpose of this group is for disabled young people and young people with SEN to have their say and advise Government on the SEN and Disability Green Paper reform programme.

For more information or to submit a short application visit the Council for Disabled Children website.  Applications must be submitted by Wednesday 26th September 2012.  

If you are an organisation working with disabled young people or young people with SEN please forward the application form and accompanying information to young people and encourage them to apply!

Draft published on SEN and Disability provisions

September 13th, 2012

The Department for Education released the draft provisions on SEN and Disability as part of the Children and Families Bill on 3rd September 2012.

This includes duties to draw up education, health and social care plans and a requirement for local authorities to publish a ‘local offer’ of services for disabled children, which should be made available to parents and carers.

It is expected that the Children and Families Bill itself will be introduced into Parliament in the new year.

SEND Pathfinder Evaluation Update

SQW have released their Evaluation of the SEND Pathfinders Quarterly Report.

It does not include all pathfinders but gives a snapshot of of the initial start up phase of the programme.
